This event will feature two excellent presenters discussing the following:
Addressing Addictive Behavior in Adolescent and Young Adults John D. Lieberman, Director of Operations Visions Adolescent Treatment Centers
Addictive behaviors, including drugs, alcohol, self-harm and disordered eating affect the entire family. This presentation will provide information and data regarding various therapeutic models for the treatment of addictive behavior in adolescents and young adults. By addressing addictive behaviors as a primary illness, we can establish a foundation for evaluating educational, psychological, psychiatric and behavioral issues. We will also discuss the importance of family involvement throughout the treatment process and the difference between showing up and being a part of the solution.
Using the 12 Steps in Adolescent Treatment Patti Ochoa, Program Director Touchstones - A Program of Social Model Recovery Systems, Inc.
The focus on the second half of the presentation will be specifically how the 12 step model can be used to help adolescents uncover choices and behaviors that have blocked them. By focusing the 12 step on the adolescent's needs and using the 12 step fellowship in a positive and productive way, the adolescent can learn strategies for making healthy changes in their lives and continuing to grow once primary treatment is completed. Families also learn ways to support their child's choices by using the 12 step model as well.
